ARTS 1050

Introduction to techniques, materials, and strategies of drawing including linear and atmospheric perspective, figure/ground, gesture, contour, and value--using ink, charcoal, and graphite.

By the end of the course, the student should be able to:

  • Make technically competent drawings with minimal direction.

  • Respond clearly and effectively about the dynamics of drawing competence using a discipline-specific set of terms and ideas.

  • Understand and usefully reference the historical development of drawing as a specific discipline.

In addition to the course learning outcomes, this course will also address these College general education outcomes and competencies:

  • Demonstrate the ability to solve problems and draw conclusions by analyzing graphical form.

  • Critically evaluate the meanings of artistic works.
