Introduction to techniques, materials, and strategies of drawing including linear and atmospheric perspective, figure/ground, gesture, contour, and value--using ink, charcoal, and graphite.

By the end of the course, the student should be able to:

Make technically competent drawings with minimal direction.

Respond clearly and effectively about the dynamics of drawing competence using a discipline-specific set of terms and ideas.

Understand and usefully reference the historical development of drawing as a specific discipline.
